Cut the Cord is the debut EP from up-and-coming Wellington four-piece Number 8 Wireless.

Long under-the-radar but much loved by those in the know, the band won a place as National Finalist in the 2018 New Zealand Battle of the Bands and there came to the attention of Grammy nominated and two-time Aria Award winning producer Steve James.

Having produced for the likes of Paul Young, Kiki Dee, Cold Chisel, The Angels, The Screaming Jets and New Zealand’s own Weta, James steered the band to Australia. Cut the Cord was recorded in Brisbane’s Red Engine Studios over the late summer of 2018.

Cut the Cord comprises five tracks starting with Indie-rock belter Magnetic You and finishing with Island Bay – a local anthem in which lyrics and a 1980s sound combine to evoke yearnings for long-gone loves in by-gone Kiwi summers.

The mid-section of the EP comprises a soulful and beautifully produced love-at-first sight ballad (Snapshot), searing and sarcastic pop (Mini Me) and a reggae number delivering a tough message in an easy groove (Freedom).

A long-time in gestation - but now released on all major on-line platforms - Cut the Cord combines genuine musical and song-writing talent with world-class production to showcase what until now has been in the sole possession of Wellington’s live music-scene.

The first single and music video released from Cut the Cord was 'Magnetic You' followed by video's for 'Mini Me', 'Island Bay' and 'Freedom'.
